Two terraces, paths and steps: Robertsbridge, East Sussex

In this garden, the existing crazy York stone patio was crumbling apart, its support walls were blowing their rendering, the foundations were inadequate and it was desirable for the whole level to be dropped to facilitate the installation of a fold-out blind to provide shade in summer. The clients then decided that they wanted their other concrete paths to be replaced with the same matching paving. New York stone was purchased by the pallet and then laid out and selected to try to match the existing as far as possible. Bricks were selected to try to match the house. The new walls are reinforced concrete block with a brick skin to hide them; all are laid on curves as the clients did not want straight lines.
A second, additional area was added after the main job and the photographs for that are below this first set.

We have done a total of in excess of 100 square metres of crazy paving in this one garden! The last photograph shows both areas; the steps of the main patio are visible in the background. Work completed Autumn 2003.
